…at University today and enrolement was surprisingly easy (bye bye £3000) with minimal faffing.
We were talked ‘at’ a lot by various reps, vice-chancellors and officers and I really needed a coffee to keep going. The low point of the morning was a campus fire safety video which said fire was a “Phantom Menace.” Hmmm.
In the afternoon while waiting for more talking from our course leader and tutors we sat outside our building in the sunshine, cross-legged – visions of ‘Educating Rita’ here – on a spot we have dubbed the ‘grassy knoll’. Everyone seems to be ten years younger than me but I’ve met some lovely people and we had our first ‘digital is better than film’ debate over bagels.
Our course leader – whom I’ve named Capt’n Jack – was the first truely inspiring speaker of the day. He made us feel good about being there (“You are the chosen 50 from over 350 applicants.”) then told us how hard the course would be but sweetened that with promises of using sexy equipment and being able to take broadening subjects in any of the visual arts courses the campus offered. Ooh, Japanimation!
Tomorrow we’ll be assigned a personal tutor and get our ‘mug-shots’ taken.
