Cinema: Not for the kiddies

Saw the first bus-side advertisement today for Samuel L Jackson’s ‘Snakes on a Plane’.

Hopefully this film will fall into the so bad it is good category. Any film that has the immortal line “There are motherfucking snakes on the motherfucking plane!” promises much.

I worry about ‘Snakes on a Plane’. You’re right, it should be so bad it’s good. But from the start this has been conceived and promoted as being so bad it’s good. I’m just not sure it works if you deliberately try to make it bad. Films whose goodness derives from their badness are unintentionally bad. What if ‘Snakes on a Plane’ is so bad it’s so good it’s actually not that good at all? That’s my worry.

I was reading somewhere about SLJ requesting additional motherfuckers in the script - or maybe it was the producers after SLJ had signed up. Either way, no man can pull off motherfuckers like he.

Alternatively of course, it might actually not be bad at all - it might in fact be good. In which case, good.

wow, that is a bad line. maybe u are right, it will be so bad thats its good. Better than movies they rave about and ur the one stupid enough to shell out the 15 bucks to see it and finds out that it sucks…
    oh well

This film confuses me. SLJ is considered a ‘good’ actor, no? And yet he is in a film in which, from what I can gather, the plot line is that there are snakes on the plane. It doesn’t add up. So perhaps the script is great? um, no. Unless, as you point out Menace, it is MEANT to blur the whole good/bad line. I’m confused.

Menace - that about sums up the argument muddyfunster.

Annie - so now SLJ is making films that are a social and political statement? Heaven forefend!
