Names

As Bubb has reported we are looking for our first home together. It seems silly feeling different about living together (yes, of course in sin) due to the fact we shall own our own bricks as opposed to merely renting them, but hey.

We’ve being doing our research over the past few months into neighbourhoods and their relative merits and demerits. We’ve got out mortgage offer officially on paper and we’ve worked out the best location to live based upon our vastly different commutes.

The first two days have been fairly profitable. Ten flats seen, two likely contenders, one offer put in and one offer accepted. Hopefully tomorrow we can put another offer in on the last flat we saw. Fingers crossed.

I’ve been mentally changing the names of all the places we’ve seen so far to distinguish them in my mind. One has Blick in the name; which of course becomes Hans Blick [sic] Way, similarly Lupin Road becomes Remus Lupin Road. I’m glad it wasn’t Sirius Black House because he was defeated by a mere curtain and that doesn’t bode well.

Today I have been mostly looking at baths, and rubber.

I am rooting with Hans Blick, because well, they’ll never ever find any bad stuff in your new flat then. Plus he’s kinda cool, in a calm, calculating, pacifist kinda way.

    Hope you get your fave!

  2. pog Says:

Never mind all that. Rubber? What?

  3. Kate Says:

    Eeee! Eeee! Where? Where?
I might be having some moving in-ness at some point as well, but for now, shhhhh, and tell me about the houses!

  4. Gamba Says:

Ooh, hope you get the house you want!

Pete, I am of course a pacifist but not beyond hiding a thing or two in my cupboard just in case.

Poglet - The rubber is question is flooring for potential bathrooms, acid yellow to be precise or maybe hot pink… Dalsouple’s website is very tempting.

Kate - Both in Bermondsey (all the Toots ones M was shown were actually outer Streatham near no forms of transport.) The one we really want to put an offer in on is a complete wreck but is just opposite Shad Thames. Mucho potential. Ooh parties?

Thanks Gambs! Are you looking in Glasgow yet?

  6. Roach Says:

ooh bermondsey. we’ve decide its just too expensive for us. the house prices have gone up 15% since january :(

  7. Brother Lawrence Says:

Thanks for asking about the rubber, Pog. I didn’t feel comfortable mentioning it.

  8. pog Says:

You know me, BroLo - never afraid to ask the unaskable …
Did you watch Wotsisname Da Mosta (Mosca) last night, Bobs? Marvellous programme.

  9. foxyboy Says:

    hmm..house hunting…I remember that…the disappointment…the near misses…the tears…and that’s just getting paper cuts from the property pages. heheheh :)

  10. bobble Says:

Roachy that makes me sad. We better get our skates on then… where are you looking now then?

I didn’t watch last nights one Poggie (got it recorded though) but I have watched the other ones. Oh the Tuscany one made me weep! Why did I move back to England?! I love Siena… and the wine… and the sun… and the handsome counts… *thud*

Foxy you have to brave to even think about opening the property pages!

  11. Brother Lawrence Says:

I thought of you last weekend, Bobble. Saturday was the patronal feast of Florence so Sunday they would have held their traditional parade and calcio in costume. With its colors and pageantry, it’s would be a photographer’s paradise, I imagine.

  12. bobble Says:

Is that Saint John’s feast Brolo? I’ve not seen the Calcio Storico but I’ve heard it can be very visceral!

  13. pog Says:

It was brilliant, Bobs - you’ll love it. Esp the tunnels in Naples …. Brilliant.

  14. Roach Says:

we’re looking in chalk farm, kentish town, caledonian road… albeit not very hard. there are three tiles to be fixed in the bathroom before ours can go on the market.

  15. Brother Lawrence Says:

Exactly right, John the Baptist. Apparently, there weren’t many rules for calcio in the fourteenth century. During one match the summer I spent there, one player’s ear was partially bitten off. That may have earned a yellow card. Great stuff.

It is worth the effort in the end though. You end up with your own place…well it’ll be your in 25years! Damn that sounds so depressive :(

I helped my girlfriend find a house, and she bought one for 37k just before the house prices shot up. It’s worth 120k now! :)
