Good Telly

BBC Four are running a season called The Century that Made Us, about the 18th century, from 10 June – 9 July.

Promises to be a good one with programmes on art, dress, war and of course some cracking period drama. Clinch those bodices ladies!

I also see my favourite art historian, Andrew Graham-Dixon (“or your naughty older art lecturer who you really shouldn’t fancy” as one friend describes him) has a programme during the season on 22 June about the ‘Battle for British Art’.

Our esteemed lecturer

Also just started (BBC 2 last night) is another series by Francecso da Mosto, called ‘Francesco’s Italy: Top to Toe’. Last night was the ‘Romantic North’. Sadly all too short but he did go to some of my favourite towns, like Mantova. Ahh Italy, I miss you so.

Francesco da Mosto

In other news tonight sees the opening match of Italy’s world cup campaign vs. Ghana. Sadly, Italy’s world cup song “Cuore Azzurro” is written and performed by a band named ‘Pooh’. I kid you not. On the bright side the boys do look fantastic in Dolce & Gabbana’s Underwear 2006 campaign.

Gli Azzurri

In bocca al lupo.

Oooh -is that a Barchetta he’s driving? Gorgeous little cars, they are …

  2. pog Says:

Aaah – it’s not. It’s an Alfa. Curses.

  3. bobble Says:

Sadly not, barchettas are ace and not seen often enough.

  4. Gamba Says:

Oh, how I wish I had more than 4 channels.

  5. Roach Says:

I’d take the one in the middle, or if he was busy the one far left. My limited Italian leads me to think your last note said something about a wolf and a mouth? Am I right?

I hope you will be watching the footy later, and not BBC2!

  6. bobble Says:

I’ll be planted in front of the footy tonight and shall not be shifted Roach!

It’s a phrase that means *looks around* good luck, like “break a leg”. Literal translation ‘in the mouth of the wolf’.

  7. bobble Says:

As for ones to pick I like Fabio Cannavaro on the far left, sadly he had lovely long hair which he cut off.

    *sigh*

  8. Roach Says:

I have to say, looking at that photo today gave me even more joy than yesterday. Must be the 2-0 win.

  9. bobble Says:

I shall have to dig up the two other photos then Roach m’dear.

  10. Brother Lawrence Says:

My abs would look like that if only I could afford D&G knickers.

  11. KateEvans Says:

Oi. I’m going to have to start watching the World Cup much more closely.

    They’re really called Pooh?

They must find all the jokes at their expense rather hard to Bear.
