For Brother Lawrence:
The first of my Lubitel scans from Italy. Orvieto’s duomo at night. The first time I’ve used a ‘toy’ camera - or indeed a twin lens reflex - on a tripod too. I guestimated the exposure as it was set on ‘B’ and I held the shutter release cable in for 30 secs.
Only 300 years, 33 architects, 152 sculptors, 68 painters and 90 mosaicists in the making.

Incantevole. I don’t think I ever saw it at night, but I did see it once when the sun, low in the sky, hit it full on. It was magnificent. Thanks for thinking of me.

Lovely, and am impressed you managed to get such a good exposure just by guessing! If I’d tried it would probably have come out black.

That’s stunning …

the detail captured if exquisite.

Thanks everyone! I was amazed how well this came out as it’s one of my first goes with my lubitel medium format camera. It’s classed as a toy camera (think it has a plastic lens like my Holga) and it weights nothing (totally plastic body) but you do get the odd cracking shot from it. A mere £17 off evilBay.
If you go to the Flickr entry for the shot (click on the picture above) and click on all sizes you can see a bigger version with more detail.

Ooh. Is that sky manipulated or was it really that dark? Fab photo.

Pog took the words out of my mouth - stunning.

Thank you kindly ladies!
Katja - it’s all real, it was about midnight when I took it. Orvieto is a hill town with hardly any light pollution. The only thing that is lit up at night is the Duomo.
