I really shouldn’t go travelling it gives me itchy feet; someone make me a lotto millionaire now please.
Well the UK is grey, cold and I have the holiday blues, but on the plus side I don’t have to work this month so I can blog and blues from the comfort of my own bed. Oh and I picked up another dreaded ‘plane cold’, 11 days and counting of snot so far.
New York was divine as always. We rented a gorgeous loft, which while not in an area I’d of picked as a first choice (near Union Square) was so convenient for all the stuff we wanted to do. And, on inspection by my local friend Rebecca was confirmed as within the $2m range. Oh well that’s my plans for moving into that building scuppered.
I can confirm I am still in love with West Village and the Meat Packing District however I now have a little flirtation with the Lower East Side and Boerum Hill in Brooklyn going on. I am such a neighbourhood slut.
Didn’t take many photographs as the weather was exactly the opposite of last years bright but arctic in that it was grey and tepid. To be honest I was too busy shopping and carousing to take much notice of my camera.
Oh my god the shopping, how can anyone live in New York and not shop? That place is hazardous to ones wallet. I did budget well and made some sale steals so I can just about survive January not working. The total orgiastic haul included:
New professional macro lens for my SLR
3 x pairs black and dark brown wool/cashmere work trousers from Banana Republic
Formal work black wool/cashmere coat from Club Monaco
Black cashmere v neck sweater from Banana Republic
A 1950′s green and brown crushed velvet tea-skirt from Anthropologie ($100 off in the sale)
4 x 1950′s sundae bowls from Anthropologie
4 x long sleeve T’s from American Eagle Outfitters (the new more interesting Gap in my opinion)
Brown leather belt (American Eagle Outfitters)
Birkenstock-like slippers in brown and green (American Eagle Outfitters)
White angora sweater (Gap)
Low-rise jeans (American Eagle Outfitters)
Fleece cream hoodie (American Eagle Outfitters)
Killer Anne Klein black and white kitten heels from Century 21
Mixed clinque skincare and makeup (Century 21)
Baking equipment (loads) for cupcake / cookie making from Broadway Panhandler, Bowery Supplies and Crate and Barrel, including a divine ghost shaped cookie cutter (I am addicted to novelty cookie cutters now)
Cookery books x 4 from Borders, Barnes and Noble and Crate and Barrel – on New York cookery, diner cooking and cupcke making (had about a million print-out coupons for money off books to get rid off)
Kiehls toiletries
Leather gloves from Lord and Taylor (had a 20% off coupon to use here)
See’s Peanut Candy 1.5lb box
Nars makeup at Barneys
More mugs from Dean and Deluca…
I can’t remember anything else at the moment
Things I love more than ever about this place are;
1. The freakish amount of adoration people give to their minute dogs as captured by Bubb on his camera phone:

and if you are an animal lover never go to ‘Le Petite Puppy’ on Christopher Street
2. Irony hasn’t totally escaped the Williamsburg set (again Bubb’s cameraphone):

3. Verlaine on the Lower East Side has the best cocktail ever: ‘Saigon Bellini’ – champagne, black raspberry sake and crushed passion fruit.

Welcome back hon, I’m not at all envious of the pro macro lens one bit *green*. They’re great lenses, really make a difference to your portfolio, and open up a whole new world of photography. I used to have a 14mm Aspherical lens which was just fantastic for ultra-wide stuff, but macro is a whole different ball game.
If you’re free on the evening of Friday 20th, there’s a blinks in London which, if rumours are true, might be the last chance we all have to get together as 20six bloggers. Check out the blinks blog for details. And get well soon! x
