Reason 65456

… for hating my job.

I have to read this:

UNITING AND STRENGTHENING AMERICA BY PROVIDING APPROPRIATE TOOLS REQUIRED TO INTERCEPT AND OBSTRUCT TERRORISM (USA PATRIOT ACT) ACT OF 2001

An Act

To deter and punish terrorist acts in the United States and around the world, to enhance law enforcement investigatory tools, and for other* purposes.

(all 402 pages of it) by tomorrow. Gah.

*Love the use of the word other.

Now I hate your job too. And my stoopid flatmates. And the weather. When are you making your escape?

I’m planning on giving them a months notice next week. Out in time for Christmas then giving myself January off to ‘assess life/job prospects.’

No way you can just pretend to have read it?
If they ask anything about it, just make up something suitably redneck, racist and reactinairy and it’s bound to be in there.

I was worried you’d gone and left us!
Can you not burn the strega? We have a proud British tradition of burning people at the stake, and I’m all for heritage. The Patriot act? WTF?

Bonus points for the use of Strega BHM.

Now I have read it I can conclude that Dick Cheney is even more evil than I thought. Also how can a law of over 400 pages be enacted into law in a mere month after 9/11? WTF indeed.

How could Hitler enact his emergency laws so soon after the Reichstag fire? Some people are just looking for an excuse.

I hated immeaidetly after 9/11 that so much was said about the world having changed. The world didn’t change until our governments adopted a policy that allowed it too. There had been terrorism before, and would be again. What changed the world was what followed from the US and UK governments…

I’d like to claim it as my idea, but there is a story by Flan OBrian about how you can get someone to come in and do the same sort of thing to your personal library if you can’t be bothered to read the books.
