Friday afternoon: don’t like / like

1. I can’t be the only person not to like the word ‘preparedness’. Where the hell did it come from? I think there is even a ‘Department of Preparedness’ in the US.

2. Still like the confessions on Group Hug. Today: “i hate winnipeg.” amongst others.

It’s one of those made up american words that they think sound all modern and dynamic, but actually look as though the speaker or writer has no command of the english language or is too lazy to look it up in a dictionary. I especially hate ‘linkages’ or ‘an actor in this situation’ (instead of ‘a participant’ etc).
I’m off to Group Hug right now.

I’d say not, as it sounds freakish to me but it’s all over the place look at fema.gov or the even more scary ready.gov.

Never fear Pete the ever helpful Bubb has sent a paraody, shall post shortly.

You’ll also note on ready.gov that natural disasters are at the bottom of the list of potential hazzards. I bet the people who live in New Orleans are so grateful for that.

    Be Ready

I particularly like: “…If you spot an act of terrorism, blow your anti-terrorism whistle. If you are Vin Diesel, just yell really loudly.”

‘preparedness’ is right up there with ‘contractual obligations’ in my book.

Preparedness is an absolutely dreadful word. What’s wrong with using readiness?
